Salina, KS

We went for a walk in downtown Salina while we waited for our table at the Italian restaurant for dinner. Salina has a great Main Street with shops and restaurants and all sorts of art. They have clearly put some time and money into it. A storm rolled in and we were treated to a beautiful rainbow!

Kansas Turnpike

It was fun, but not the most exciting part of the day. That award goes to the detour where I-70 was closed. Thanks to Waze we figured it out!

Welcome to Kansas

Welcome to Missouri

Two signs!

Welcome to Illinois

Happy Birthday!

Serenading Gma Elaine

Ali has been teaching herself to play the guitar and figured out Happy Birthday. She practiced so she could play it for G-ma Elaine! It was fantastic!

Carrot Cake

Sam made a DELICIOUS and beautiful carrot cake for Elaine’s birthday!

Birthday Banner

Car art project...

Old Glory

Wood inlaid flag that Jim made. This was the barrier between the girls on the trip out. It looks fantastic in Elaine & Ed’s living room!

Chickens

Ben and Lora have chickens too. They may be as spoiled as our rabbits...

Bunnies!

We went to visit Jim’s brother, Ben and his family. The girls spent most of their time hanging out with the rabbits, Dean and Suzy Q.

PA traffic

We are definitely in Amish country and we must have been traveling during school pick up. There were loads of horse and buggies on the road!

Popovers!

A successful batch of popovers! And a popover making lesson from Grandma Elaine.

St. Clairsville, Ohio

Another long day in the car (725 miles), is rewarded with a beautiful evening swim!

We even saw a few fireflies! Very exciting for us high altitude folks!

Welcome to Ohio

Welcome to Indiana

Could they make the signs any smaller? We would have expected more on I-70. Between the size and the construction we almost missed it!

America’s Largest Cross

A drive by wack wild and weird.... 198 feet tall. Just shy of the 200 foot FAA requirement for a light on top.

Silver Lake Rest Area, Illinois

Strange signage here...

Welcome to Illinois

Another bridge crossing.
